In an age where your private information is being sold left right and center by websites you visit your privacy becomes more and more important by the day. This is where a VPN comes in. And spoiler, it's very cheap to ;) What is a VPN?I get asked this question allot. 1st of all "VPN" stands for "Virtual Private Network", what it is is just that, it's a network that is secure and private for you. Secure your Public WiFi connection What I mean by that is for example going out to your local cafe or shop that has free public wifi, That is all great right? Log into their wifi and start using facebook upload the photo of that stunning coffee you just ordered? Well yes that is all great but the issue is if there is someone feeling a bit malicious sat at a table in the cafe/store or even outside in range of the public wifi with a hacking program programed to hack anyone connected to that network and install spyware or malware on any and all connected devices. What this means is they can snoop through all your personal information, track all sites you go to and even keystrokes and get the information sent back to them so they can take the key information they are looking for such as bank login details. Well fear not, if you are a Public WiFi user you can protect yourself with a VPN. A VPN basically Bypasses the network you are connected to making a virtual private tunnel to the VPN suppliers network making it completely secure meaning them hackers will not even see you are on the network :) Unlock Geo Locked Content What do I mean by that? Well glad you asked, If for example like me you live in the UK and you go on holiday or a business trip to another country and you fancy catching up on Doctor Who on BBC iPlayer (any program for that matter just a example), well what happens when you try and view that content from outside of the UK is you get a message blocking you saying that content is geo locked (Example below) Again the best way to bypass this is a VPN, Select a server in the country you want to watch (in this case UK) and the content will be unlocked. ISP Tracking. We all hear the horror stories of ISP's tracking our data, although I can't say for sure if this is or isn't true I have had many friends who has had letters sent by their ISP's to them warning them to stop doing certain activities or they may get prosecuted. I have seen one of these letters and they are real but to this day im still yet to hear any isp prosecuting individual people but I have heard individual people being prosecuted by the copyright owners using evidence from there ISP. Best way to stop your ISP from seeing your usage is again using a VPN. So in summary what is a VPN? Its exactly that a Private gateway to the internet using your suppliers network and not your own. There is many other great usages but I don't want to drone on to much, such as it may allow more links to be open that your ISP blocked, great for kodi users and Businesses use a VPN as its the safest and Securest way to be online and do day to day business Honestly I could sit here for hours giving many different benefits as to why you should have a VPN but honestly it will put me out of my comfort area and I am a end user like you and don't know everything but there is many great articles online about them. Do you need a VPN?This question in itself raises so many more questions. Do you use any public wifi? For example at a Airport? a Cafe? any public wifi? Do you want to access content that is Geo Locked? For example US Netflix Do you use kodi or other similar apps and want to get more link? Any of the above yes? Then yes you should get one. Again there is many other usages for a VPN and I recommend you read up on some of them to decide. So Digibit?Digibit is a company that takes pride in protecting their users data. They have a zero log policy on all VPN customers. They also do Web Hosting, Web Design and many other services. This is the Digibit website for you to have a look yourself > https://digibitdesign.com And how much is it? The question you all want to know, How much is this service? Well surprisingly this service is just £2.50 a month (around $3.35usd) but if you use the discount code for 20% off it goes down to just £2 a month (around $2.70usd) The discount code can be placed in the checkout and that code is STREAMVPN Will my connection speed be effected? As with most VPN's yes it will be affected but this is another great thing about this provider its not affected to much. Infact via WiFi on my mobile phone I personally find my speeds are very often faster for some reason that I don't actually know. Only thing I can think of is my ISP has some sort of security or tracking thing built into the router but that might but be my tin foil hat. Here is 2 screenshots I took on the same day 1 after the other. The faster of the 2 speeds in with the VPN turned on (you can see the VPN is on due to the key shown on the top left of the screen. 1st image VPN off, 2nd VPN on How difficult is it to install and use? Windows = You download and install their app from the Digibit Downloads page Android = You download and install the app from the Google Play Store iOS = Unfortunately at the moment the official app hasn't been released yet but you can download a openVPN app such as OpenVPN Connect and add the Digibit VPN to that Amazon FireTV = This is a little bit more work, You install FireDL to your FireTV device, go to radianware.com and search for Digibit, you should then see the code and from there you put that code into the FireDL application and press download. Router = Yes you can install it directly on a router, 1st check your router can support openVPN, if it can then you just send a ticket to digibit and they will get back to you and send you the files you need then just follow any online guide on how to install a VPN to your router using them files. All of the above can be found on the Digibit Downloads page along with allot of great FAQ's Is there any YouTube guides? Yes at the moment there is a guide to install to Windows, Android and Amazon Fire Devices. I made the 3 guides and plan to do one for iOS and Asus Router in the future. You can find the playlist for the guides here > How to Install Digibit VPN Playlist ConclusionSo in conclusion, in this day and age with cyber attackers and our ISP tracking our movement and now sending warning letters out to us it would make sense for us all to now purchase a VPN
On top of protecting ourselves against Hackers and our ISP's we gain the added benefits of working around Geo Locked content and unlock previously blocked linked by our ISP's. Digibit is the cheapest provider that doesn't track any of your data meaning they can't sell your data like many free VPN companies do. I completely 100% recommend you check out Digibit Digibitdesign.com
